Day 1: Subject pronouns, Object pronouns, and Adjective pronouns

 

Q: Do you know the difference between ‘she’ and ‘her’?

Pronouns are used to represent nouns. 代詞用來代替名詞的反復出現

e.g. Mary loves reading books and she spends almost all her pocket money on books!

In this sentence, ‘she’ is used to represent Mary and ‘her’ is also used to refer to what belongs to Mary.

 

Five Types of Personal Pronouns

There are 5 types of personal pronouns. If you know how to use a pronoun of a particular type, you should be able to use all other pronouns of the same type.  For example, if you know how to use ‘myself’, you should be able to use ‘yourself, yourselves, himself and herself’ correctly!

 

First Three Types of Pronouns

Here are the first three types of pronouns. We will talk about the other two types of pronouns later.

 

1.    Subject Pronouns: you, he, she, they, it 人稱代詞主格

Subject pronouns are used to represent subject nouns in a sentence.

e.g. My mother is a good cook. She always cooks delicious food for us.

 

2.    Object Pronouns: you, me, him, her, them, it 人稱代詞賓格

Object Pronouns are used to represent object nouns in a sentence.

e.g. We love our mother, yes, we love her.

 

3.    Adjective Pronouns: your, my, his, her, their, its 形容詞性人稱代詞

Adjective Pronouns are used as adjectives and placed in front of nouns.

e.g. I like my little pussy, but not your black dog!
