This teacher, aged 20, repeatedly ran into a three story school to try to save as many children as possible. She saved 13 students before the building gave way and killed her.
During the earthquake, one building at Dong Qi middle school, De Yang city of Sichuan collapsed. At the moment of quake, Mr Tan, who was a politics teacher and the director of the school, covered a desk with his arms open and bent over to protect four students hiding underneath the table. The children survived. Mr Tan was found dead by the rescuers.
There was another young teacher named Wang Zhouming, who took charge of 50 students at a school in Shifang. When the tremor occurred, he immediately led the students out of the front and the back doors. As the building crubled he rushed to a girl and pushed her away from a falling wall and suffered a fatal blow to the head. He was one of the many teachers who sacrificed his life to save students.
