Sichuan Earthquake

On the afternoon of 12 May 2008, a devastating earthquake measuring 8.0 Ms struck Sichuan Province in China. It has claimed the lives of more than 69,000 residents, with 368,000 injured and tens of thousands still missing.

The massive first quake and thousands of aftershocks demolished homes and buildings, leaving almost five million people homeless. The government are struggling to find tents for China’s residents, who are uncertain of when, if ever, they will be able to return to their homes.

The 512 Sichuan earthquake has torn apart countless families and destroyed many schools. Huge numbers of teachers and students were killed in piles of rubble from the collapsed “tofu” (unstable) school buildings. Thousands of children who survived the disaster are orphaned and living in despair

It is at times like these that human beings must gather together. Please write down your warmest wishes to those suffering in China. Donations and messages are a good way to show our support for the victims of this terrible disaster.
